Xiaomi 18 Fold

Xiaomi has officially unveiled the Xiaomi 18 Fold, its latest foldable smartphone with a wider and more compact passport-style design. Unlike traditional tall foldables, the phone focuses on a shorter and wider form factor while still offering a large tablet-like display when unfolded.

The Xiaomi 18 Fold also packs Xiaomi’s new XRING O3 flagship chipset, dual 120Hz LTPO OLED displays, and a Leica-backed triple-camera system. It combines flagship-level hardware with a slim and lightweight foldable design, making it one of the more interesting devices in the segment.

In this article, we discuss everything you need to know about the Xiaomi 18 Fold, including its design, display, performance, cameras, battery, specifications, availability, and expected price in Nepal.

Xiaomi 18 Fold Overview

Design and Display

The Xiaomi 18 Fold takes a different approach to foldable smartphone design. It features a shorter and wider passport-style body with rounded corners, making the phone more compact and comfortable to use when folded. Once unfolded, it opens into a large tablet-like display for a more immersive viewing and multitasking experience.

Xiaomi has placed a horizontal camera module on the rear, which houses the phone’s triple-camera setup. Despite its foldable form factor and large battery, the phone weighs just 219 grams.

The device measures only 5.02mm thick when unfolded, which is particularly impressive considering it houses a large 6,000mAh battery. Xiaomi offers the phone in three color options: Nishino Red, Warm Gold White, and Black.

When folded, the Xiaomi 18 Fold features a 5.38-inch LTPO OLED cover display with a 1712 x 1168-pixel resolution. The panel supports an adaptive 1–120Hz refresh rate, allowing it to adjust the refresh rate based on the content to balance smoothness and power efficiency.

The outer display also features a rounded design that Xiaomi says makes it more comfortable for one-handed use. The company protects the cover screen with Xiaomi Shield Glass 3.0.

Unfolding the phone reveals a much larger 7.58-inch flexible LTPO OLED display with a 2364 x 1672-pixel resolution. Like the cover screen, the inner panel supports a 1–120Hz adaptive refresh rate.

Both displays can reach up to 4,000 nits of peak brightness, making them suitable for viewing content even in bright environments. Xiaomi also uses an ultra-thin glass layer on the inner display to help maintain the phone’s slim profile.

Performance and Software

The Xiaomi 18 Fold gets its performance from Xiaomi’s new XRING O3 chipset, which the company builds using a 3nm process. The flagship platform features a 10-core CPU with a maximum clock speed of 4.35GHz, along with a 16-core G2-Ultra NX GPU.

This hardware should provide plenty of power for demanding applications, multitasking, productivity, and intensive gaming. The large inner display also makes the foldable well suited to running multiple apps and handling more demanding workflows.

Xiaomi offers the phone with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage. The highest-end 1TB configuration uses LPDDR6 memory, while the other variants use LPDDR5X RAM.

On the software side, the Xiaomi 18 Fold runs HyperOS 4 based on Android 17. Xiaomi has optimized the software for the foldable form factor, with features designed to take advantage of the larger inner display.

The software also introduces updated visual elements, lock-screen customization, stacked widgets, and additional AI-powered features. These additions aim to make multitasking and everyday use more convenient on the larger screen.

Camera and Battery

For photography, the Xiaomi 18 Fold features a Leica-backed triple-camera setup on the rear. The primary camera uses a 200MP sensor with an f/1.7 aperture and OIS, while the 50MP periscope telephoto camera offers 3.5x optical zoom and OIS.

The setup also includes a 50MP ultrawide camera, giving the phone a versatile combination for standard, zoom, and wide-angle photography.

The dedicated periscope telephoto camera should be particularly useful for capturing distant subjects while maintaining better image quality than digital zoom.

For selfies and video calls, Xiaomi includes 16MP cameras on both the cover and inner displays. Both cameras feature an f/2.2 aperture. The rear camera system can also record videos at up to 8K resolution.

Despite its slim profile, Xiaomi has managed to fit a large 6,000mAh battery inside the phone. The device supports 67W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging.

The large battery should help compensate for the power demands of the two displays, particularly when users spend extended periods using the 7.58-inch inner screen.
