Realme has officially unveiled the Realme GT8 Pro in China, and it’s easily one of the most experimental flagships of the year. The phone introduces a swappable camera housing system, a first in modern smartphones, and pairs it with a 200MP periscope camera co-developed with Ricoh. Add flagship-grade performance, ultra-fast charging, and a massive battery, and the GT8 Pro clearly aims to push boundaries.
Realme GT8 Pro Overview
Display and Design
The Realme GT8 Pro features a 6.79-inch 2K OLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate, delivering fluid animations and sharp visuals. The panel reaches an astonishing 7,000 nits of peak brightness and up to 4,000 nits under direct sunlight, making outdoor visibility excellent. It also supports Dolby Vision, covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, and includes hardware-level DC dimming that can drop brightness as low as 1 nit for comfortable night viewing.
Touch responsiveness is equally impressive. Realme claims 3,200Hz instantaneous touch sampling and 360Hz four-finger sampling, which should particularly benefit competitive gaming.
On the design front, the GT8 Pro truly stands out. The phone introduces a detachable camera housing, secured by two Torx screws. Users can swap the module with different styles, including:
- Functional Robot
- Classic Round
- Square (metal porthole design)
- Transparent Rubik’s Cube
Realme also released official 3MF files in collaboration with MakerWorld, allowing users to 3D-print custom camera housings.
Color options include:
- White with AG frosted glass
- Blue and Green with paper-like recycled leather, which Realme claims is eco-friendly, durable, and corrosion-resistant
Performance and Software
Powering the Realme GT8 Pro is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset (3nm), paired with an Adreno 840 GPU. The phone comes with up to 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB UFS 4.1 storage, offering faster read and write speeds than the GT8’s UFS 4.0.
Realme also adds its custom R1 graphics chip, designed to enhance gaming. It supports super-frame and super-resolution in over 100 games, delivering better image quality with lower power consumption. The phone can handle 2K gaming at 120fps in open-world titles and native 144Hz gameplay in select competitive shooters.
To keep temperatures in check, the GT8 Pro uses a 7,000mm² Ultra-Coverage Cold Front vapor chamber, the largest cooling system Realme has ever installed. It covers all major heat-generating components, ensuring stable performance during long gaming sessions.
The device ships with Android 16 running Realme UI 7.0. It also features Realme’s Sky Communication System powered by the S1 chip, which reportedly improves cellular gaming signals by up to 25% and supports 21 global 5G bands.
Camera System
Ricoh-Co-Engineered Main Camera
Realme partnered with Ricoh to develop the GT8 Pro’s camera system. The 50MP primary camera uses a 1/1.56-inch sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and OIS. It features an ultra-high-transparency lens group that meets Ricoh GR optical standards, reducing glare and distortion while improving sharpness.
The phone also includes a dedicated Ricoh GR Mode with a custom UI inspired by Ricoh GR cameras. This mode offers fast startup, the signature Ricoh GR IV shutter sound, and five classic Ricoh color profiles:
- Standard
- Positive Film
- Negative Film
- Monotone
- High-Contrast Black & White
Users can also fine-tune their own looks using the Customized Tone option.
200MP Periscope Telephoto
The standout camera is the 200MP periscope telephoto, which uses a 1/1.4-inch Samsung HP5 sensor with an f/2.6 aperture and dual-axis OIS. It delivers 3x optical zoom, 6x lossless zoom, and up to 120x hybrid zoom.
The True 200MP Mode uses multi-frame fusion powered by the Snapdragon chipset and Realme’s imaging algorithms to produce ultra-detailed shots. The camera can also capture 8K ultra-HD photos, offering four times the resolution of standard images.
Ultra-wide and Selfie Cameras
Unlike the GT8’s 8MP ultrawide camera, the GT8 Pro upgrades to a 50MP ultrawide sensor with an f/2.0 aperture and a 116-degree field of view. On the front, the phone packs a 32MP selfie camera (f/2.4), doubling the resolution of the GT8’s 16MP shooter.
Video recording tops out at 8K at 30fps.
Audio and Haptics
The Realme GT8 Pro features dual 1115E symmetrical speakers with N’Bass enhancement and a full-cavity structure for richer sound. It supports Hi-Res audio and uses an 0816 AAC ultra-wideband linear motor with third-generation ESA technology, delivering precise and satisfying haptic feedback.
Battery and Charging
The phone houses a massive 7,000mAh second-generation Titan battery, split between two silicon-carbon cells. It supports 120W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
Realme claims the phone can reach 50% charge in just 15 minutes wirelessly, while a full wired charge takes under 45 minutes—a major upgrade over the GT8’s wired-only charging.
Additional Features
The GT8 Pro comes with IP66, IP68, and IP69 ratings, offering strong protection against dust and water. It also includes:
- In-display ultrasonic fingerprint scanner
- Infrared sensor
- NFC
- Wi-Fi 7
- Bluetooth 6.0
- Support for Beidou, GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and QZSS navigation systems
