POCO M7 Pro

The POCO M7 Pro 5G has officially launched, and it brings several meaningful upgrades over last year’s M6 Pro. A brighter AMOLED display, improved cameras, faster charging, and a refined design make this budget smartphone a solid contender in its segment. Although the price has seen a slight increase, the overall package feels well worth it.

POCO M7 Pro 5G Overview

Design and Display

If you’ve been following recent smartphone trends, this won’t come as a surprise. Since POCO and Redmi both fall under the Xiaomi umbrella, design and hardware sharing is common. The POCO M7 Pro 5G is essentially a more affordable version of the Redmi Note 14 5G, which explains the familiar look and feel.

Despite being a budget phone, the M7 Pro 5G looks noticeably better than its predecessor. POCO offers the device in Lunar Dust, Olive Twilight, and Lavender Frost, with the latter standing out as the most eye-catching option. The phone also feels lighter, offers better ingress protection (IP64), and uses a more scratch-resistant display.

The biggest upgrade comes in the form of the display. POCO replaces the older IPS panel with a 6.67-inch FHD+ gOLED display. While the size is slightly smaller, the thinner bezels, 120Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision support, and 2,100 nits peak brightness deliver a premium viewing experience. An in-display fingerprint sensor further enhances usability, making the screen one of the strongest highlights of the POCO M7 Pro 5G.

Performance and Memory

POCO powers the M7 Pro 5G with the MediaTek Dimensity 7025 Ultra, a 6nm chipset featuring two Cortex-A78 performance cores and six Cortex-A55 efficiency cores. This setup strikes a good balance between performance and power efficiency, making the phone suitable for everyday multitasking and casual gaming.

The device starts with 6GB of RAM, while an 8GB variant is available for users who want extra headroom. Storage options include 128GB and 256GB UFS 2.2, which should be more than enough for most users.

On the software side, the phone runs Android 14-based HyperOS. POCO promises 2 years of Android updates and 4 years of security patches, which is respectable for a phone in this price range.

Cameras and Battery

POCO also improves the camera hardware this year. The rear setup features a 50MP primary camera using the Sony LYT-600 sensor with a wide f/1.5 aperture and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). This combination should deliver sharper photos and better low-light performance. A 2MP depth sensor assists with portrait shots, although the absence of an ultra-wide camera remains a missed opportunity.

On the front, the POCO M7 Pro 5G houses a 20MP selfie camera. While it performs well in daylight, the relatively small f/2.2 aperture may limit low-light performance.

The battery gets a modest upgrade to 5,110mAh, but charging speeds see a major jump. POCO now includes 45W fast charging, a significant improvement over the previous 18W support. Connectivity features include 5G, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.3, dual SIM support, and a 3.5mm headphone jack, which many users will appreciate.
